As most of the rest of the world is counting down to 2009, we are about to reach another major milestone. As of this weekend, we will have reached the halfway point.* The baby still has a long way to go, but it’s hard to believe that we are starting to get closer to the end than the beginning. Things seem to be moving much more quickly now, so I decided that I should start doing weekly updates, especially since most of you don’t get to witness the quickly growing belly on a regular basis.
At 19 weeks the baby is currently the size of a large heirloom tomato or a small cantaloupe depending on which calendar fruit comparison calendar you are following. Since no one has a picture on Google labeled small cantaloupe, we’ll have to go with a picture of the tomato. The size is actually somewhat deceiving because that length is actually the crown to rump (head to bottom length), so you would actually have to picture a large tomato with legs attached.
Those legs are quite active at the moment. I started feeling occasional kicks around Thanksgiving, but now those kicks are quite regular and strong enough to be felt from the outside. At the moment, the baby seems to think that evenings and nights are playtime. For the moment, at least the baby seems to have backed off kicking the adheasions on my scars. When my doctor said the scars wouldn’t be a problem at all, I didn’t realize that she meant that they wouldn’t be a problem because the baby would personally try and remove the adhesions. I can’t imagine what that would have been like if the baby had the original 25 year old adhesions to play with instead of just the adhesions from the revision.
We’re still trying to get up to IKEA to get baby furniture, so we can get started on the nursery. Attempt #1 was canceled due to the combination of an ice storm and me getting sick. I’m still recovering from this cold, but we’re going to try and go again this weekend, so we can get the furniture before I go back to work.
Happy New Year!
*There is a pregnancy ticker at the bottom of the page that shows where we are on any given day.
