Baby Shower

My children’s lit colleagues threw us a shower yesterday, and I finally have some pictures to post. Since I was sitting down in every single picture taken at the baby shower, I added a picture of my belly from a couple of weeks ago.

We had a great time. The clothes pin with the note about “baby” was for a game where everyone got a clothes pin. In order to keep your clothes pin, you had to avoid saying the word “baby” in all linguistic forms.* Given the fact that I couldn’t use gender specific pronouns either, I lost mine pretty quickly.

We got lots of bath gear and some clothes and books. M and Emily made a tie blanket that everyone finished tying during the shower. It’s very soft and I’m sure will get a lot of use in a few weeks.

The highlight of the shower, however, had to be my advisor’s son. He popped in early on and asked where the baby was. R explained that the baby was still in my belly. J very seriously looked at her and asked if I was going to have the baby right there in their living room and if that’s what the party was for.

Enjoy the pictures!

*There was a debate as to whether or not “baby” in other languages was allowed. I never got the official verdict on this.
