Just Waiting on the Baby…

The new floor is finally installed and the furniture and bathroom are finally functional again. Our major accomplishment, however, was officially finishing the nursery. My parents and sister came up this weekend to help us, and we finally got all of the odds and ends finished.

All of the baby laundry is now done and put away, the hospital bag is packed, the changing table is anchored to the wall, and most of the wall art is up.* Now all we need is the baby.

I’m really pleased with how everything came together. When we picked out the furniture last fall, we primarily picked it because of IKEA’s reputation and because it matched a few other pieces of furniture we already had. Last week, however, I was flipping through an issue of Babytalk magazine that they gave us at one of our classes and discovered that our crib (and several other items we had picked out) were featured in an article about the best deals in baby gear.

Even if the crib becomes more common, we definitely won’t run into someone else with the same room. My mom made all of the bedding and curtains. Even the changing pad covers, hamper liner, and diaper stacker are custom made. The prints on the wall over the crib are pieces of extra fabric that we stapled over wooden IKEA frames.

As of last night we also finished our last breastfeeding class, which was the final class in our childcare series. As helpful as the classes were, I’m really glad that we aren’t hanging out in the hospital conference center 1-2 nights a week any more.

The only thing we have left to finish on the pre-baby checklist is the baby holding off until the end of the semester. My last day teaching is this Friday, but I would prefer to have a few days to get all of my grades finished before the baby comes.

*I still have frames for children’s lit prints that go over the bookshelf, but I thinking that those may be a summer project.
