Capone has started eating “real” lunch with the “big” kids at daycare. I knew he would be fine because honestly he’s been off pureed baby food at home since January and in the last month or so has move to eating tiny pieces of what we eat for the most part. When I dropped him off at daycare, we went over the lunch menu to make sure it was okay for him. They were having chicken, toast, grapes, and red pepper sticks. All on Capone’s list of regular foods. He did fine. He loved it. Everything was fine.
We have done a modified baby led weaning approach. Because of daycare, we can’t realistically let him nurse on demand and feed himself, but we have modified his schedule as he was ready. We cut up foods to let him practice at 6 months when we started solids and by 7 months he had a master pincer grip in both hands and was self feeding Cheerios. (more…)
