Al Capone’s Birthday Bash: Custom Tshirt and Toddler Legwarmers

Sailboat Applique

We’ve been posting giveaways all week in honor of Al Capone’s 1st Birthday next week and all of the blessings we’ve received. Now it’s time for Day 3. When Capone isn’t wearing overalls, he wears a lot of custom items.  I started making him baby legwarmers and appliqued shirts because it was cheaper and more unique than what I could find in stores.   We used the legwarmers for an extra layer that was diaper change friendly.  I was so frustrated of searching for baby clothes that weren’t sports themed or character driven that I started embellishing the plain shirts and bodysuits we already had on hand.  What started as a a few things for Capone and baby gifts has slowly grown into a very small selection of items in my Etsy store which provides us with a little spending money funds a small portion of my cloth diaper habit.  Day 3 of Al Capone’s Birthday Bash Giveaway will have 2 winners.

  • A custom appliqued tshirt/bodysuit of your choice (sizes 0-3 months-4T).  The winner will get to choose the fabric and design of his/her choice.
    • Designs and fabric are not limited to current Etsy examples.  I will try to accommodate all requests.
  • A pair of polka dot infant/toddler legwarmers in the print below. (more…)

Al Capone’s Birthday Bash: Overalls

We’re giving away lots of goodies this week in honor of Capone’s 1st birthday.   And when I sat down to make a list of some of our favorite things, overalls were at the top of the list.  I’ll be honest, I more than a little anti baby pants.  When Capone was tiny they just weren’t practical.  His belly hung over. They were a pain to take on and off at diaper changes.   Worst of all they seemed to only fit for a week without being too long or too short.  He wears more pant now, but we even with his cloth diapers, he seems to crawl right out of them.  So overalls have become his uniform.

So we bought a lot of overalls and it sort of became one of Capone’s trademarks.  He wore a pair of pants for about 5 minutes for a picture at 3 months old and then didn’t even own another pair until Christmas.  Until recently he’s worn only one piece outfits and overalls.  We have own short ones and long ones.  Red, blue, denim, tan, green, plaid, striped, seersucker, cotton, fleece, knit, and khaki, we probably have one of the largest overall collections.  I even have overalls put away in the hard to find toddler sizes for the future.
